Auto Auctions AA - Auto Auction. Buying from an AA gives you more choice and better pricing. Bid - The price offered on an auction vehicle during an auction. Maximum Bid - The highest bid your agent will make. This will not go beyond 10,000 Yen over your written bid.
Dealer Stock Fixed Price - When a car is being sold for an amount that doesn't change. Stock - Vehicles owned by a dealer, usually sold at a fixed price. Buying stock is faster and less risky.
Shipping Agreements FOB - Free On Board. Also called FOB Japan. The price of the vehicle plus standard fees to have the car ready for shipment. This includes the auction house fee, dealer/exporter fee, deregistration fee and land transportation to Japanese port. This does not include extra costs such as JAAI inspections required by certain countries. C/F - Cost / Freight. This is the FOB cost and shipping cost from Japanese port to Port of Destination. This does not include Marine Insurance. C&F - Same as C/F. CFR - Same as C/F. CIF - Cost / Insurance / Freight. This is the FOB cost, shipping cost, and shipping insurance cost. In other words, this is the total cost to get the vehicle to the Port Of Destination.
Shipping Methods Ro/Ro - Roll on / Roll off. This available for certain ports where the car can be driven on and off the ship. This method is cheaper. Container - Car(s) are place in container for shipment. This method is available at more ports than Ro/Ro and is safer.
Other Shipping Terms Freight - In this industry, it refers to transportation by ship unless called "Land Freight". Marine Insurance - Basic insurance to cover total loss of a vehicle while being transported by ship. POD - Port of Destinatoin. Sometimes called Point of Destination. Port of Destination - Usually the nearest available port to your location. This is where your car(s) will be shipped to. You choose your POD.
Documents of Trade Arrival Notice - A notice stating the ships arrival given to those listed to receive it in the Bill of Lading. B/L - Bill of Lading Bill of Lading - A contract between a shipper and a transportation company that establishes the terms for shipping. It serves as a document of title, a contract of carriage, and a receipt for goods. Deregistration Certificate - A certificate proving among other things: End of previous ownership, proper mileage, and the car's history. This certificate is necessary to export/import a used vehicle. Customs Invoice - Also called the Invoice. Prepared by the exporter or a Freight Forwarder and describes the goods bought. It is used for import clearance.
General Terms JDM - Japanese Domestic Market. Usually refers to vehicles or parts intended for sell in Japan. RHD - Right Hand Drive. Steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle. This is the normal position in Japan. LHD - Left Hand Drive. Steering wheel is on the left side of the vehicle. Car with LHD are always imports into Japan.

Fuel Terms Petrol/Gasoline - Petroleum based liquid with additives Diesel - A specific fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil. Hybrid - Combining multiple forms of fuel, usually for economic reasons. Electric - The use of batteries and a electric motor for power. Ethanol - Same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages as fuel. LPG - Liquid Petroleum Gas - A mixture of hydrocarbon gases. CNG - Compressed Natural Gas - 70 to 90% methane in gas form.
